Women's biggest lie in life and how it affects our friendships
If you’re a woman, you already know this sentence does not necessarily mean what you think it means:
"I'll be ready in 5 minutes"
Once in a while “five minutes” means five minutes.
Other times it means I haven't showered.
Most times it means I'm still deciding what to wear.
And on this particular morning, it meant absolutely nothing.
Not because we are dishonest.
Because sometimes we genuinely believe it.
At 7:30 that morning, I was supposed to leave the house.
My friend had told me very clearly:
“Please, for once, don't be late.”
I had laughed.
“Me? Late? Never.”
She went quiet.
That silence should have been my first warning.
I woke up at 6:00 a.m. feeling extremely responsible. I even congratulated myself before getting out of bed.
“Look at you,” I thought. “An organized woman.”
I had one hour and thirty minutes.
Plenty of time.
I took my phone and checked WhatsApp.
Five minutes.
Then Instagram.
Another five minutes.
Then TikTok.
Somehow a woman was teaching me how to make pancakes in a video that I had absolutely no intention of making.
Suddenly it was 6:37.
I jumped out of bed.
“Okay. We are moving!”
I rushed to the bathroom, brushed my teeth and started preparing.
Everything was going perfectly.
Until I opened my wardrobe.
That was where the real battle began.
I had clothes.
Lots of clothes.
But somehow, I had nothing to wear.
I pulled out one dress.
“No.”
Another.
“Absolutely not.”
A third.
“Who bought this?”
I stood there surrounded by clothes like a woman who had just survived a flood.
I finally chose an outfit.
Then I looked at myself in the mirror.
“No.”...
