Why birds drink water facing the sky

One day there was drought in the land which lasted for many years.The land became bare.The tree wilted,shortage of food was the order of the day.The animals became slender and skinny.The birds were too weak to move from one twig to the other.The weaver decided to convene a meeting to discuss how to mitigate the problem.The weaver moved from one nest to the other to take the information.The weaver,dove, hawk,eagle,sparrow and hens decided to lead from the from front to look for immediate solution.They met under a baobab tree."Let's pray and have faith, let's pray for brain and rain,the sparrow said.They agreed to dig a trench and hope it would rain that day.The eagle was fast in digging because of sharp claws.The trench was rectangular and six metres deep.After digging the trench, the clouds criss crossed to prove it was about to rain.The birds built hope of getting water at the end of digging the well.They surrounded the trench whistling favourite tune. pray for brain and rain.Sparrow, the chairman instructed his team to meet at the site the following day.They broke for their homes.That night,it rained cats and dogs.The trench was filled to capacity.Sparrow, the chairman was the first to arrive at the site..The birds heeded to their request.They made a circle around the trench.They chirp with their sweet lulling melodies as they hither from tree to tree to welcome a new and perhaps a better day.Because they had suffered a lot with thirst,the Sparrow, instructed the birds to take sip of water hold in the mouth and look at the sky to thank the maker for listening to their prayers.Because they had stayed for long without water they agreed to thanks the maker day in day out whenever they quench their thirst.To date,birds sip water facing the sky to thank the maker for heeding to their call.
