Unpopular opinion: Marriage and pregnancy are treated as the peak of a woman’s existence, not because women are finally seen, but because this is when society feels it has successfully claimed her.

These are not celebrations of women, they are victory parades for a system that benefits most when women are tied down, occupied, exhausted, and emotionally invested in men.

From the moment a girl is born, she’s groomed for this ending. Fairytales, religion, culture, and family pressure all pointing to the same destination: become someone’s wife, carry someone’s child. Not “be fulfilled,” not “be powerful,” not “be free.” Just be chosen.

A woman can graduate, build a business, survive trauma, reinvent herself from scratch and the room stays quiet. But let her get a ring or a pregnancy test? Suddenly everyone is clapping. Suddenly she’s “complete.” As if her value only becomes official once a man is involved or her body is producing labor for the future.We are taught to pity the woman who eats alone in a fine restaurant, yet we applaud the woman losing herself in the shadows of a thankless marriage. We call the traveler "lost" and the CEO "hardened," yet we call the exhausted mother "blessed" simply because she has conformed. This collective obsession with the ring and the cradle is a distraction—a way to ensure women never realize that their untapped potential is more "dangerous" than their domesticity.Women aren’t celebrated for choosing themselves. They’re celebrated for choosing submission. And any woman who refuses this script is labeled bitter, or broken, because a woman who opts out threatens the entire illusion and system.

Until women are celebrated just as loudly for autonomy, ambition, boundaries, and walking away, marriage and pregnancy will remain less about love and life and more about rewarding a system that profits from their surrender.
