"Do you remember the day you introduced me to your friends and told me, 'These are my brothers'?"

She looked straight into my eyes when she said it.

I knew immediately that something was wrong.

We were sitting together, but suddenly the room felt unfamiliar. Her voice was calm—almost too calm. There was no shouting. No tears. No argument.

Just a strange silence between every sentence.

"Why are you asking me that?" I said.

She looked away for a moment.

Then she looked back at me.

"Because I need to tell you what I've been doing since you cheated on me."

My heart dropped.

I remember staring at her, waiting for the punchline.

She was furious.

She was disappointed.

And then, surprisingly, she told me she would forgive me.

I believed her.

That was my first mistake after the mistake.

I thought the war was over.

I didn't know she had simply stopped fighting out loud.

She became calm.

She stopped bringing up the other woman.

She started acting like we were rebuilding.

I felt relieved.

I thought I had been given another chance.

Then she did something I never expected.

She suggested that the three of...
