The next morning felt different.
It wasn’t just the sunlight slipping through the thin curtains or the quiet hum of the city waking up—it was the memory of him. The way he had looked at me, like he wasn’t just seeing me… but recognizing something he had been searching for.
I told myself it meant nothing.
People meet all the time. Strangers cross paths. A glance, a smile, a moment—that’s all it was supposed to be.
But my chest didn’t agree.
I found myself walking the same route again, slower this time. My eyes traced every corner, every café window, every passing face… hoping, even though I wouldn’t admit it out loud.
He wasn’t there.
A strange disappointment settled in me, heavier than it should have been. I barely knew his name. I didn’t even know if I’d heard it right. Yet somehow, his absence felt louder than the entire street.
