THE MAN WHO WOKE UP WRONG
Daniel was born a healthy male baby.
Throughout his childhood, he practiced well manners and proper etiquette.
"Please" and "Thank you" were the first words he learned.
His mother called him "my gentleman."
His teachers called him "the example."
Suddenly, on his 20th birthday, he fell into a month-long coma.
The doctors called it a mystery. A brain aneurysm with no cause.
His family prayed. His girlfriend Ada held his hand every day and told him stories until her voice went hoarse.
On day 30, Daniel opened his eyes.
Everyone cheered. The nurses cried. Ada kissed his forehead.
"Daniel, thank God," she whispered.
But Daniel just stared at her.
Then he smirked.
"You look tired," he said. "No wonder you have no friends. Who wants to sit with a crying mess for a month?"
The room went silent.

In the weeks after, things got worse.
Daniel couldn't resist the habit of saying or doing mean things that would degrade and humiliate another person's dignity.
To the waiter: "Is this food or trash? Did a blind man cook this?"
To his professor: "No wonder this class is failing. You're too dumb to teach."
To his little cousin: "You're so ugly. The camera would cry if it took your picture."
It wasn't Daniel. But it was coming out of his mouth.
This took a toll on his daily life.
Once stable and loving relationships became broken and bitter shipwrecks.
Ada left after he told her she was "only pretty when she shut up."
His best friend stopped calling after Daniel...
