Owayo some kale I ate at the University of Nairobi years ago. The statement was coined briefly and punchy — thereby eliciting heated reactions from my followers, many of whom were left in the poorly lit corridors of sixes and sevens.
In a sentential punchline, I expressed how regretful I am to this day after eating the kale in question. The kale was watery and tasteless — something below my expectation. I did not enjoy it. I struggled while eating. I was left asking myself why someone would find it fit to serve me such, yet I had paid good money!
Having set the background from the hip, allow me to move swiftly to the paragraphs underneath and try to elucidate in detail what exactly transpired on that cold night at the precincts of the University of Nairobi’s Mamlaka Hostel.
Some years ago, I enrolled as a student of Medicine at UoN. The University Students’ Welfare Association allocated me a room in Mamlaka Hostels. Many of you who studied at UoN will confirm that all first-year students of Medicine have special rooms domiciled within Mamlaka Hostels before they are later moved to KNH for further studies. I was lucky to have stayed there.
