Amara had a strange problem she never told anyone about for a long time.
People would talk about a boy. His name was Jayden. They would describe him so clearly. They would say he was tall, that he had a scar above his eyebrow, that he laughed with his whole face, that he always wore a blue jacket even when it was hot.
Amara would listen. She would nod. She would build his face in her mind piece by piece.
And ten minutes later, it would be gone.
Completely gone. Like someone had taken an eraser and wiped his face out of her head. Not just the details — the whole person. She would try to remember and there would be nothing, just a blank space where his face should have been.
It happened again and again.
Her friends would say, do you remember Jayden, we told you about him yesterday.
