The architectural offices of Vanguard Designs occupied the top floor of a ultra-modern glass tower in Kilimani, offering a panoramic view of Nairobi. Inside, however, the atmosphere was less about design harmony and more about corporate warfare. At the center of this warfare were Bahati Onyango and Trevor Maina.

They were the two most talented junior architects at the firm, both twenty-nine, both fiercely ambitious, and both completely incapable of being in the same room without arguing. Bahati’s jaw dropped. Trevor froze, his pen slipping from his fingers.

Mzee Kaelo’s strict face instantly transformed into a look of profound satisfaction. "Ah! Wonderful! A shared vision in work and in life. Excellent. I want to see the preliminary layout designs at my private ranch in Nanyuki next weekend. If I like the design and the harmony between you, the project is yours."

The moment Mzee Kaelo...
