Chapter 1 — The Perfect Life

Samuel Mwangi’s life looked perfect from the outside. A successful financial consultant, a beautiful wife named Lillian, and a seven-year-old daughter, Aisha, who greeted him every evening with the same shout: “Daddy’s home!”

He had earned every privilege, every respect, and every glance of admiration. Yet under the polished surface, something festered. Something he had buried long ago.

It was a Tuesday evening when it all began to unravel. A plain envelope lay on his desk. No stamp, no return address, only his name written in jagged black ink.

He hesitated before picking it up. Something in the air felt heavy, expectant. He tore it open. Inside was a photograph — four young men smiling, arms slung around each other. Samuel froze.

He knew each face. But one in particular made his chest tighten: Peter, his best friend from university.
