Illusion of justified violence
In reality, "kutengenezwa" through violence is the destruction of a person's spirit. When injuries are worn as badges of a partner's "passion" or "love," it masks the Cycle of Abuse. This cycle typically follows a pattern:
Tension Building: Small incidents, verbal cues, and a feeling of "walking on eggshells."
The Incident: The physical assault (the "slap" or "beating").
Reconciliation/Honeymoon: The abuser apologizes, or the victim accepts blame, and there is a period of intense affection or "fixing."
Calm: The incident is forgotten or joked about until the tension builds again.
