Episode 2 – The Price of Betrayal
I woke up that morning with a heavy heart.
I stared at the ceiling for minutes, trying to convince myself that what I had agreed to the night before was only a nightmare. But it wasn’t. The unread message blinking on my phone confirmed that it was all too real.
It was from Grace:
> “Meet me at 8 PM. I’ll give you the details. Don’t be late.”
I sat up, rubbing my eyes. My palms were sweaty. My chest tight.
What have I done?
I wanted to say no so badly. But then my phone beeped again — this time, a message from my landlord reminding me that my rent was overdue. I sighed. Poverty has a voice; it speaks in reminders, hunger, and shame.
That evening, I met Grace at her house. She was calm — too calm for a woman whose world had just fallen apart. She wore a silk robe and sat on the couch, sipping red wine like someone plotting war.
“Chiamaka, sit,” she said quietly.
I sat.
She slid a brown envelope toward me. “That’s half the money. The rest will come after.”
I hesitated. My heart raced as I touched the envelope — it was heavy, crisp, real.
“Grace, are you sure about this?”
She smiled faintly. “I stopped being sure about anything the day I caught my husband pànts down with his secretary.”
She then handed me a file — Kenny’s schedule, even his favorite bar.
“You’ll meet him at Luxe Bar tomorrow evening. I’ve already arranged it.”
I swallowed hard. “And what do I do when he…?”
“Sedùce him,” she said coldly. “The rest will flow naturally. I just need proof. That’s all.”
I stared at her for a long time. The friend I once knew — the bubbly, loving Grace — was gone. What sat before me now was a wounded soul plotting revenge in the prettiest way possible.
