I Fell for the Wrong Guy… Because Chege's Heart Still Belongs to Bobo 💔
Chege wasn't the kind of guy you ignored.
He had that smile that made every girl turn twice, a deep voice that made simple conversations feel special, and the kind of confidence that made people naturally gather around him.
Unfortunately for me... I had a crush on him.
At first, I thought I actually stood a chance. He laughed at my jokes, remembered little things I told him, and sometimes even walked me home after classes.
My friends kept saying, "Girl, Chege definitely likes you."
I wanted to believe them.
Then there was Bobo.
Everyone knew about Bobo. She was beautiful, confident and impossible to ignore. Chege had confessed his feelings to her months earlier, but she had turned him down.
"I only see you as a friend," she'd told him.
Any sensible person would have moved on.
Chege didn't.
Instead, he kept texting her.
She never accepted him... but she never completely pushed him away either.
She'd reply whenever she was bored.
She'd call him when she needed favours.
She'd disappear for days, then suddenly act sweet again.
And every single time, Chege would run back to her.
Watching it broke my heart.
Because whenever I thought we were getting closer... one notification from Bobo was enough to make him forget I even existed.
One afternoon I finally asked him.
"Why do you keep chasing someone who already rejected you?"
He looked at me quietly before smiling sadly.
"You don't stop loving someone just because they said no."
Those words hit me harder than I expected.
That's when I realised something painful.
The same way Chege couldn't let go of Bobo...
I couldn't let go of Chege.
We were both holding onto people who weren't choosing us.
One evening I watched him leave halfway through our conversation because Bobo had called.
He didn't even hesitate.
He just smiled and said, "I'll text you later."
He never did.
That night, I stared at our old chats and finally accepted the truth I'd been avoiding.
I wasn't competing with another girl.
I was competing with a memory... and memories are hard to beat.
The next morning, I stopped texting first.
I stopped waiting for his messages.
I stopped making excuses for him.
Weeks later he noticed.
"You've changed," he said.
I smiled.
"No... I finally chose someone who chooses me."
He looked confused.
"Who?"
"Myself."
For the first time in months, I walked away without looking back.
Because sometimes the hardest lesson isn't that the person you love doesn't love you...
It's realising you've been waiting for someone whose heart never left another person.
