Chapter 7: Leaving the Service
David left for his village to oversee the project he had fought so hard for.
While he was away, he still found ways to reach me. He sent me poems. Folded scraps of paper carried to me by a trusted altar boy who never knew the secret he was part of. Each note felt like a piece of him and I read them over and over in the quiet of my room.
In his village, the school began to take shape. Boreholes were sunk, and children laughed as fresh streams of water burst from the ground. Every update he sent filled me with pride. He was building something that could help a lot of people and it only deepened my love for him.
