How a dubious promise by a drunk producer almost crushed my music passion

FRIEDRICK WAWERU AKA YANG TEECHA is a fast growing dancehall artist based in Nairobi. He shares with SILAS NYAMWEYA why he dropped out of college to focus on music and how has this influenced his career.

Who is Yang Teecha and what inspired you into music?

Yang Teecha is Kenyan Dancehall musician and a recording artist inspired by the Carribean Dancehall style. In my teen years, I could find myself regularly singing and dancing along whenever I encountered dancehall.

How long have you been in the music industry and how has the experience been?

It's like about 6 years now; I started recording a year after completing my secondary education. About the experience, the game has been really tough because in this industry if you are lacking the "papers" no one is really concerned about your music. Besides, I have learn’t that many people are concentrating on numbers.
