Part 1: Musee, Elder of the Itching Kingdom

I am Musee, first of my name, Elder of Elders, the Great Itch-Bringer, and the oldest kunguni in the entire Kingdom of Kunguni. My joints squeak. My shell is chipped. My eyesight left long ago — but who needs eyes when you can smell dinner from twenty steps away?

Ours is a proud kingdom built in the Deep Warmth — a vast land made of hidden cracks, narrow tunnels, and soft darkness. To the untrained creature, it looks like nothing. But to us kunguni, it is home, history, and comfort.

The kingdom is divided into villages:

Kisitu cha Joto – where the Warmth never leaves.

Kivuli Kubwa – the Great Shadowed Passage.

Mwanya wa Uhai – the Gap of Life, where young kunguni learn to crawl fast enough to avoid being squashed by fate.

Ukoko wa Asali – the Honey Crust, named after the sweet smell that lives there (humans will never understand...
