“The Day Nairobi Held Its Breath Again”

January 15th, 2019 began like every other busy Tuesday in Nairobi.

Westlands was alive before sunrise.

Matatus blasted music through traffic. Business people rushed into office buildings carrying coffee cups and laptops. Waiters prepared breakfast for guests inside the luxurious DusitD2 hotel complex.

Nobody imagined the city was only minutes away from another nightmare.

Inside the offices, keyboards clicked endlessly as employees replied to emails and prepared for meetings. Foreign visitors relaxed in hotel rooms. Security guards chatted casually near the entrance.

Then suddenly—

A loud explosion ripped through the air.

The ground shook violently.

For one terrifying second, silence swallowed the area.

Then came gunfire.

Rapid. Relentless. Echoing across Riverside Drive.

Panic exploded instantly.
