Construction of Sports Facilities in Nairobi City County to Nurture Talents and Create Opportunities to the City Youth

The ongoing construction of the Kihumbuini Stadium by Governor Sakaja is truly a turning point for the youth of Nairobi City County. With an estimated cost of 277 millio

n, this stadium project is set to nurture talents and create opportunities for the youth in the Kangemi ward and beyond.

Governor Sakaja's commitment to fostering change through talent support is evident in his previous achievements through the construction of sports facilities.

Governor Sakaja stated that the sports facilities, once complete, it will attract football teams across the county and others from the outside the county.

“Once complete, the sports facilities are going to create opportunities to the city residents and are also going to provide infrastructure to nurture talents among our youthful population in Nairobi City County,” Governor Sakaja stated

The Dandora Stadium, which was delivered on March 8, 2024, after a six-year delay, is proof of his dedication to promoting sports.

The state-of-the-art facility boasts a 4,000 sitting capacity, complete with an artificial turf, utility rooms, floodlights, and a well-designed drainage system.

Governor Sakaja also opened Uhuru Complex Sports Arena, which is a multi-sports facility with a football pitch, a basketball court, and a convertible court that can cater to various sports like netball, volleyball, and handball.

The complex has a multipurpose hall that can host indoor games such as chess and table tennis, providing a platform for young talents to display their skills in various disciplines.

The ongoing construction of the Woodley Stadium and the ongoing renovation of the Joe Kadenge Stadium (formerly City Stadium) shows the governor's commitment to developing sports facilities.

These projects provide the youth with opportunities to engage in various sports and compete at a higher level, ultimately opening doors for them to excel and succeed in their chosen field thus creating job opportunities inline with Governor Sakaja's manifesto.

Governor Sakaja is not only providing top-notch facilities for sports enthusiasts but is also creating opportunities for the youth to display their abilities and talents since the use of sports culture as a tool to prevent crime and drugs abuse among youth.

Mr. Brian Mulama, CECM – Talents, Skills Development and Care emphasized the need to have sports facilities in Nairobi City County to promote sports and nurture the talents.
