(I watched a few lectures on Psychology from MIT before writing this article. They have a bunch of free lectures on different disciplines on YouTube. Might be something you would be interested in during your free time.)

You lose a loved one, you’re grieving and sad. It’s only natural to let people know how you feel, so you post it online, a photo of your loved one with a caption. The Late is not online, they can not see if you posted them jr not. But your friends (and foes) are online and you post because you’re saying something and that is, ‘I lost a loved one and I’m sad.’ You tell the world what happened and more importantly, how you’re feeling at that specific moment.

Not a good way to start an article huh, but stay with me.
