A Plate of Hope: Form Three Student Brings Smiles to Grace Nanana Rescue Center

Every school holiday, while many students head home to rest, one young Kenyan is choosing a different path: one of compassion, service, and hope.

Meet Remmy Kigen, a Form Three student at Paul Boit High School in Uasin Gishu. For him, the end of term is not just a break: it’s an opportunity to give back.

This term, on Easter Monday, Remmy, alongside family and friends, visited the Grace Nanana Winbridge Education Center; a safe haven for vulnerable children.

Located about 50 miles south of Nairobi, the center provides full-time care and education to Maasai boys and girls escaping harmful cultural practices such as female genital mutilation and early forced marriages.

Here, children are not only protected: but empowered to choose the life they want to live.

With support from friends, family, and well-wishers, Remmy brought meals and gifts; simple gestures that carried a powerful message: you are not forgotten.

“I just want to give hope to these children and show them that someone cares. I also encourage others to join this course so we can reach even more children.” He told the reporter.

But beyond the meals, it was the moments shared: the laughter, the games, and the friendships; that truly made the day special.

Remmy’s journey of kindness began in 2024, when he joined Form One. Since then, his efforts have continued to grow, earning recognition across the country.

In 2024, he was named Youthful Volunteer of the Year by the Ministry of Labour, Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs.

And in 2026, he received the Humanitarian Young Champion of the Year Award at the 360 Awards.

His school community and administration continue to stand firmly behind him, supporting a mission that is inspiring many.

“I am glad that I am receiving support from family, friends, colleagues and the school community to exercise my passion of charity and encouraging those who are less privileged” Remmy told the Nairobian.

In a world often defined by challenges, Remmy Kigen is proving that even the smallest acts of kindness can create lasting change.
