Synopsis

Security vulnerabilities don’t usually come from evil intentions or complex tricks — they come from small assumptions and vague instructions that computers follow far too literally. This article uses a simple fence-and-garden analogy to explain how software flaws are created, how quick patches can unintentionally introduce new weaknesses, and how attackers think creatively to exploit them. By turning abstract concepts like buffer overflows and NOP sleds (this you'll just have to google) into something you can picture — a fence, a pit, and a pile of dirt — the goal is to make low-level security ideas easier to understand without needing a deep background in computer science.
