Episode 5: Gambling in Career Choice
Children are always asked the same question.
“What do you want to become when you grow up?”
Rarely does anyone ask whether that dream will survive reality.
Adrian loved art since childhood. While other students solved mathematics eagerly, he filled notebooks with sketches, portraits, and imaginative worlds created by pencil and emotion. Drawing gave him peace words could never explain.
His teachers admired his talent.
His parents feared it.
“Art cannot feed a family,” his father constantly reminded him. “Passion is not employment.”
The pressure grew stronger after high school. Relatives praised careers with prestige: medicine, engineering, law, finance. Society worshipped stability more than purpose. Eventually, Adrian abandoned his artistic ambitions and enrolled in accounting.
Everyone celebrated his “wise decision.”
Except him.
University became emotionally exhausting. Numbers felt lifeless to him. Every lecture drained energy instead of inspiring growth. Still, Adrian forced himself forward because quitting seemed irresponsible.
