The transition between being a student and “adult” is hard on many fresh graduates, with feelings of grief, sadness and uncertainty. The reality and humility that awaits every campus student once they have graduated may startle many recent graduates. In campus we have it easy; we heat water using electric jugs and cook with electric coils without daring to pay attention to the power units that we incur. whenever we run broke we make urgent calls home or look for loans which wont go unpaid.
We wash dishes under running taps with no scruples whatsoever about the dent we inflict upon the school budget. We have the good time anyone ever missed at home; partying, hikes,play games......okay it's good life with friends anyway. we all have that delusions of grandeur in which we see ourselves driving fancy cars five or six months after being awarded power to read
For a meagre Sh40, you will eat to your fill at the 'madhe's place—Rice 20 bob and beans 10 bob or you can balance two chapatis and soup.
It is all good until we graduate from campus.
There's such a thing as post-graduation depression. i know: i had it. After graduation you lose your busy social schedule with close group of friends, your friends may relocate and move on to different career paths, the family financial support will never be that same again, the pressure of securing a well paying job, feelings of failure if the graduate is unable to find work in their area of specialty in a reasonable length of time, competition from successful age mates and friends, family pressure.
Ever heard of the phrase, TRUE FRIENDS? Or BEST FRIEND thing? It doesn’t hold any truth in it when suddenly you try calling your friends only to hear, ‘Mteja hapatikani’ or ‘the number is no longer in service.’ This is pretty normal as many of them will be on the move discovering what life has in store for them. After graduation, life can pull you away from your crew but such is life. The strongest survive.
Priorities will never be same again. Money will be your number one priority. You always dreamt of completing studies and maybe getting a job, starting a family, traveling to that scenic Coastal beach or moving out of the country. But all these will change due to the different dynamics of life that befall you. First priority here will be how to get money for the basics.
Your Confidence May Suffer and you may start doubting your self worth. Campus students prepare for their future but the ratio of chances of failure to success are high, due to the uncertainty about what the future holds. This’s true because no one knows what will happen in future.Do not let fear grip you, but rather be confident in yourself.
