I know I am not pretty; I have known this for a long time now. Ever since I was a little girl, everyone in my school criticized me for my looks, except for one person, Grace, my best friend.
She has been like a sister I have never had for over ten years now, and we are truly close. “So, are you going to confess your feelings to him today?” Grace asks me.
“I am not sure, Grace. What if he rejects me? I can't face the rejection.” I say.
Luke, the boy I have had a crush on ever since I was a little girl, until now. I have never been able to confess my feelings to him; considering my looks, I would not dare to do it. This boy was the most handsome boy in the whole school. He was also so rich, and I feared ever facing him.
“Come on, Caren. There is no harm in trying. What if it turns out positive?” Grace says.
“I will tonight during the night's party.” I say.
We were going to graduate the following day, and tonight, there was a farewell party, and everyone from my class was going to attend the party, including Luke.
"Good luck, my dear. I hope this time round, you will find your true love.” She says.
Ever since I was a little girl, I have never had a boyfriend; no one wanted to be with me because, to them, I was truly ugly. Sometimes, I hated my looks more than anything. But as time went by, I learned to accept myself for who I am.
We head to our rooms so we could prepare ourselves for the party. I lived in the same room as my friend.
As usual, Grace helps me to choose my outfit, and I smile while looking at myself in the mirror. I looked fabulous.
“I know Luke won't be able to resist you tonight.” Grace says.
“Thank you, my friend. I hope your words become a reality.” I say with a smile on my face.
We head out, and we start heading to the party, which was being held in the school hall.
But before entering the hall, we notice Luke's car parked in the compound. Immediately I notice him; my heart starts racing.
“There he is, girl. It is your time now. Go, follow him before he heads to the party.” Grace says to me. And I immediately start rushing towards him.
“Luke.” I call out his name to stop him from walking away, and he immediately stops once he hears my voice calling out his name; he then turns around to face me.
His face, his eyes, almost made my heart stop. He had the most handsome face, a face that everyone wants to kiss.
“Yes.” He says in his deep, beautiful voice, I stop while panting so hard because of running. “Thank you for stopping, Luke. I have something very urgent to discuss with you. Can you give me your time, please?” I gather all my courage to say this.
“What do you want to say? You can say it right now. I am listening.” He says. Clearly, he did not want to waste his time on me. So I just have to use this time he had given me.
“Luke, I have waited for this chance for ages now. And today is the day I am getting this chance. Thank you for giving me your precious time.” I say.
“Stop beating around the bush and just say what you desperately want to say.” Luke says.
“I love you, Luke Stones. I have always loved you. I want you. I want you so much.” There it was at last. But when I look at him, he doesn't seem to be moved by my confession. It's like he didn't hear what I had just said.
“Is that all you want to say?” He asks.
“Yes, I wanted to confess my feelings to you.” I say.
“Well, I will pretend that I did not hear this, and the next time. Don't ever stop me to talk about this nonsense again. I will not tolerate it.” He says harshly and then walks away from me.
I nearly cry, but I control myself. This humiliation was enough. I just don't know what I was thinking that made me confess. It would have been better if I didn't say something like that at all.
I gather my strength, and I head back to the room. I know if I go for the party, I might meet Luke, and that is the last thing I want right now.
