The afternoon sun cast warm, golden rays across the classroom, spilling through the tall windows. The air felt calm but charged, the kind of quiet that hinted at the end of another school day. Fiona carefully gathered her books, her mind half on her lessons, half on the assignments waiting for the evening.

Meanwhile, Mr. Stuma approached the desk with a polite smile. “Cynthia,” he said gently, “could you help me carry these books to my office? I’d appreciate it.”

Cynthia blinked in surprise, then nodded. “Of course, sir,” she replied, picking up a stack and following him down the corridor.

The office was quiet and private, tucked away in the corner of the school. Mr. Stuma set the books down and gestured for Cynthia to have a seat. He remained standing for a moment, taking in the space, then spoke in a low, considerate tone.

“I hope you don’t mind me asking… I’ve been observing Fiona, and I find myself… curious about her. She’s quite remarkable,so focused, disciplined, and thoughtful. I wanted to hear your perspective, someone who knows her well.”

Cynthia blinked, caught off guard. “Sir… I… I didn’t expect this,” she admitted honestly. “I mean… I am a little surprised, but… I can understand. Fiona is special, and I see why someone like you would notice her.”

Mr. Stuma smiled faintly, his gaze softening. “I’m not trying to overstep,” he continued carefully. “I only want to understand her better, from someone who knows her… to ensure I act in the right way.”

Cynthia considered this for a moment, then nodded. “Alright, sir. I can do that. I’ll relay your thoughts to her… gently, see how she reacts. Fiona values discretion and honesty, so… we’ll handle it carefully.”

He exhaled softly, feeling a quiet relief. “Thank you, Cynthia. I want only what’s right for her… and to support her, in whatever way I can.”

Later that week, Fiona and Raj continued their usual rhythm. They studied together in the afternoons, revising lessons, solving practice questions, and exchanging small notes. Their bond grew quietly but steadily,one of shared ambition, laughter, and the soft comfort of teenage affection. Even as Mr. Stuma watched from afar, observing her grace and intelligence, Fiona remained focused on her studies and her growing connection with Raj.
