The one who smoked up my nights and left nothing but ash in my lungs.

You strolled back into the compound at 4:00 AM after vanishing for two straight days. No call. No “babe, niko poa.” Just the soft click of the gate and the familiar creak of our door in Uthiru. I was wide awake, of course. I always was whenever you pulled your ghosting acts.

You walked in smelling of Gordons gin, foreign perfume, and a sharp scent I didn't even want to name. Under the dim hallway light, your light skin exposed everything. A whole constellation of fresh hickeys bloomed across your neck and collarbone like you had had a brawl with our cat Mr. Mittens.

You didn’t explain, Cindy. You never did. You just gave me that half-smile, the one you always used when you thought you could manipulate your way out of trouble knowing damn well we’d never talk about it.

Without even showering, you stripped, threw on that tiny nightie that barely covered anything, and slipped under the duvet like it was just another Tuesday. Then you reached for me, soft hands, familiar heat, the usual invitation.
